Geis and Kühne + Nagel take responsibility in Northern Hesse!

The logistics industry in Germany will continue to move in 2025. An important step will be carried out on January 1, 2026 if the freight forwarder Geis Krüger and Kühne + Nagel take responsibility for the IDS region of South-Lower Saxony/North Hesse. This region is located in the direct successor of the previous DSV depot in Baunatal. According to Transport Online This significantly strengthens the existing cooperation within IDS Logistik GmbH, which is considered the largest general cargo cooperation in Germany.

Geis Krüger, which was recently taken over by the Geis Group, is based in Göttingen and employs around 230 employees. The company feeds about 600 programs in the IDS network every day and supplies the same amount in the region. The Geis Group plans to expand this location by setting up a 12th IDS depot. Kühne + Nagel will also play a central role: the Hauneck location, which has been active for many years, will be operated by the North Hessian region south of Kassel and is well positioned with around 210 employees and an envelope terminal of 8,000 square meters.

strengthening the logistics networks

The decision to look after the areas of Göttingen and Kassel is a strategic step that should continue to consolidate the IDS network. In order to meet the high demands of the market, the two partners are well equipped: Together they can ensure that about a third of the IDS transmission input in the region is successfully delivered. There are 50 local transport vehicles available in Hauneck, which guarantee a smooth process.

Despite the positive developments, the industry will continue to face challenges. The market overview of Eurotransport states that general cargo cooperations such as IDS feel the pressure on the shipment quantities. In 2024, the shipment volume in the general cargo business fell by an average of seven percent. Nevertheless, the networks have made progress and are increasingly investing in digital infrastructure in order to stand up to the future.

The Geis Group and Kühne + Nagel not only positioned themselves well, but also the right sensory for the needs of the market. Such partnerships are necessary to meet the challenges of the logistics industry in Germany and at the same time develop innovative solutions. A promising perspective for the coming years is also the commitment of IDS in digital transformation and adaptation to changed market conditions.

These stable partnerships and the strong networking within the logistics companies are crucial in order to remain competitive even in economically challenging times. A look into the future of logistics in Hesse shows that despite all the adversities, care is taken to increase the service standards and continue to offer customers the best possible service.
