An exciting time has started in Bad Hersfeld: The 74th Bad Hersfeld Festival was officially opened today, June 20, 2025. The head of government not only praised the outstanding theater art, but also the innovative program of the festival, the Bad Hersfeld as a Lighthouse of the Hessian Cultural Landscape . A special charm is based on the abbey ruins, which as a historical performance location makes the festival unique.

The past season was already a great success with over 100,000 visitors. Joern Hinkel received special recognition, the outgoing director who was awarded the Hessian Order of Merit on the ribbon. Hinkel was recognized for his careful work and the further development of the "Bad Hersfeld Festival" brand. In his time, he was responsible for a diverse program that ranges from plays to musicals to concerts and pays particular attention to the promotion of children and adolescents.
