New production facility at the Gies butcher shop: 8 million euros for sustainability!
In Großenlüder, the Gies butcher shop ceremoniously inaugurated its new production facility today. The investment amounts to an impressive 8 million euros and is generating great interest from politics, business and trade. Mayor Florian Fritzsch (SPD) described the project as an important stimulus for the craft location and as a beacon for sustainability, regionality and energy efficiency. The motto of the ceremonial inauguration was “Experience craftsmanship up close” and offered the guests an exciting program.
The funding from the EU Agricultural Fund amounts to 1.7 million euros, supplemented by low-interest loans from KfW. This reflects the support provided in the EU for sustainable projects in agriculture. According to the EU “Farm to Fork” strategy, agricultural practices should be optimized so that environmental and health protection go hand in hand. Recommendations to reduce excessive meat consumption and promote local products are also part of this strategy, which is welcomed by the European community reported.
Technical innovation and environmentally friendly approaches
The butcher's new production facility is equipped with the latest technology. This includes a photovoltaic system with 245 kWp, a combined heat and power plant and a heat pump, which supply the buildings with environmentally friendly energy. The cooling and heating units are noise-insulated, and the smoking system works odor-free using the recirculation process. Up to 10 tons of sausage are produced weekly, with the meat coming exclusively from regional companies.
The approval process for the new building resulted in 40 comments from authorities and residents. Concerns about noise, smell and traffic were taken seriously, but the authority was ultimately able to meet all requirements. There have been no complaints since the new system went into operation - a sure sign of the role model function of this investment states the Fuldaer Zeitung.
Regionality and promoting young talent
The Gies butcher shop not only specializes in sustainable production methods, but also attaches great importance to the regionality of its products. The meat is slaughtered in Fulda, and the family business employs around 85 people, including 62 full-time employees. The next generation is already actively working in the company: sons Leonard and Maximilian and daughter Hannah-Rebecca are bringing a breath of fresh air to the traditional family business.
The challenges facing agriculture in Europe should not be underestimated. The European Commission has set itself the goal of supporting the economic viability of rural areas. This not only ensures the survival of the companies, but also promotes the supply of qualified specialists reports the EU Commission.
Overall, the inauguration of the Gies butcher's new production facility shows how the combination of tradition and innovative approaches can lead to sustainable and future-proof agriculture. With a clear focus on regional products and environmentally friendly technologies, the butcher shop is well prepared for the future.
