Mohnblüten expedition: Discover the purple miracle in Germerode!

On Wednesday, June 18, 2025, the Rhönklub Zweigverein Hünfeld will organize a very special event in the picturesque Frau-Holle-Land. In the poppy seed cinema in Germerode, the participants can not only experience an exciting information film about the area and cultivation of the sleeping poppy plant, but also look forward to an impressive hike through the Lila Mohnfeld. The meeting point for all interested parties is at 9 a.m. in the Ungben parking lot, Landeneau-Allee, where the bus leaves the poppy blossom and will be available at 5 p.m., as Rhönkanal.

The hike leads over about 5 kilometers through pleasant flower meadows, gentle grain fields and the magnificent poppy fields that are in full bloom. A special viewpoint will offer those present a magnificent view of the poppy fields as well as the Hohen Meißner, Hessian Switzerland and the Werra Valley. For fewer mobile participants there is a carriage ride through the idyllic fields. In addition, guests can expect a tasty range of poppy seed products, including delicious poppy seed cakes and poppy sausage. The poppy blossom is already underway in the region around Germerode. On June 14, 2025, all facilities that gather around the poppy seed opened their doors. The first purple Mohn has already opened the flowers and the pink poppies are expected to follow the next week. The general preparations for the poppy blossom festival are in full swing, and in the Geo-Naturpark Frau-Holle-Land, millions of pink poppies are expected in summer, as Mohnblüte Ms. Holle.

Visitors can easily reach the Mohnfelder via signposted hiking trails with calm benches. Fixed straw -forced paths enable direct access to the dazzling poppies during and immediately after the flowering period. There are also two other poppies in the area: viola (violet) and Zeno Morphex (purple).

If you are interested in the poppy blossom, you have the opportunity to take part in various guided poppy flowers. In Grandenborn and Germerode, hikes are offered that not only provide insights into the poppy seed, but also provide information about its use. The next hikes in Germerode are planned for Sunday, June 29, 2025, and Saturday, July 5, 2025. The meeting point is the poppy lighter in Germerode, where the stop at the poppy tennis is also intended.
