Stage readiness in Hünfeld: Students inspire with impressive productions!
The anticipation for the workshop performances at the Wigbertschule in Hünfeld was great, and the two basic courses "Performing Play" of Q2 not only made the stage shake last Friday, June 24, 2025, but also enchanted the audience. Both groups presented impressive productions that demonstrated the commitment and strong stage presence of the young actors.
The first group, led by Pia-Maria Sauer, performed “Der TaugeNICHTSKÖNNER”. This is a creative adaptation of the novella “From the Life of a Good-for-nothing” by Joseph von Eichendorff. The story revolves around a miller's son who is ridiculed and sets out with his violin to discover the world and find love. This production vividly addresses the ne'er-do-well's desperate search for his place in life. The audience could literally feel the protagonist's inner conflict and sympathize with his challenges.
The exciting duel with science
At the same time, the students, under the direction of Kristin Suppelt, set the stage with their scene collage “Whoever says A, must (not) say B!?” a sign. This performance is based on Friedrich Dürrenmatt's important comedy "The Physicists", which deals with an exciting examination of the relationship between responsibility, power and the effects of scientific discoveries. The production focuses on the scientist Möbius, who hides in a psychiatric institution to protect his dangerous discovery.
The actors' work also poses critical questions about the responsibility of scientists and shows how the pursuit of power can influence individuals - a topic that could not be more relevant today. The insights into the clichés and absurdities of the world of psychiatry are also impressively outlined by characters such as Richard Voß and Mathilde von Zahnd. The inspector investigates a complex web of loyalty and betrayal while simultaneously investigating Möbius' threatened life in the clinic.
The performing game and its meaning
The success of these productions is not only due to the creativity of the students, but also to the training program at the Wigbertschule, which promotes theater as a valuable means of expression. The “Performing Game” subject enables students to engage intensively with the art form of theater. They not only learn the practical skills of the game, but also deepen their theoretical knowledge about different forms of theater, important authors and the history of theater.
The possibility of taking the subject as an elective subject in middle school and, since the 2018/19 school year, also as a basic course in the upper school, promotes long-term engagement with theater and increases students' cultural participation. In small, committed groups, participants develop their own scenes, work with props and costumes and thus experience the diversity of theater up close Rhönkanal.de and RHS Hanover.
The school's technology group rounded off the overall experience by supporting the performances with their technical know-how, which offered the students a professional platform.
At the end of the evening, the performers not only received the well-deserved applause from the audience, but also a rose from their course instructors, symbolizing the valuable work of everyone involved. It is clear that these workshop performances not only entertain, but also provoke thought - for actors and audience alike.
