7.4 million euros for jokehouses university: Rurbanity in focus!
A lot is happening in Witzenhausen! The research group of the University of Kassel recently received the award for a grant of a whopping 7.4 million euros from the German Research Foundation (DFG). This creates a project that deals with the exciting concept of "rurbanization"- a mixing of city and country life. The goal is clear: to overcome the division between urban and rural areas and to develop innovative approaches for a sustainable future. The management of the project has Prof. Dr. Andreas Bürkert, supported by Dr. Ellen Hoffmann (both university Kassel) and Prof. Dr. Nikolaus Schareika from the University of Göttingen. Among the many topics dealt with in this first four-year funding phase, the circulars of nutrients and waste are, for example, innovative agroforest systems that promote sustainable use of resources.

This is done by ten natural and social science research projects that promote the exchange of knowledge and practices between these two worlds.
The President of the University of Kassel, Prof. Dr. Ute Clement, describes this permit as a "great success". It emphasizes that the university makes a significant contribution to managing the challenges of urbanization through basic interdisciplinary basic research. This shows how important cooperation is at a national and international level - a total of not only seven universities, but also national research institutions are part of the association.
