Johannes Knoll Quartet inspires with emotions in the Jazz Club Eschwege!
On November 17, 2025, jazz lovers experienced... Eschwege Jazz Club an unforgettable evening. The Johannes Knoll Quartet captivated the audience and offered an impressive performance of their own compositions and jazz classics.
The ensemble was made up of talented musicians: Johannes Knoll on trumpet, Julius van Rhee on saxophone, Ivan Scholz on bass and Jonas Heck on drums. Johannes Knoll, who has been familiar with the trumpet since he was five, particularly impressed with his impressive playing style. His pieces, which he consistently only titles with numbers, reflect strong emotions. “No. 5” put the audience in deep sadness, while “No. 1” was positively stubborn.
A program in a class of its own
The concert also included international jazz highlights. The musicians interpreted “Nem um Talvez” by Hermeto Pascoal and “Two Bass Beat” by Claude Barthélemy, which made the audience cheer. After a short break, the “Sonata for Trumpet” by Paul Hindemith followed, followed by “Kalypso” by Paul Motian. The highlight of the evening, however, was Knoll's composition “No. 6,” which sparked spontaneous applause.
The crowning finale was the encore “Just One Look” by Paul Bartley, which convinced even skeptical listeners. The audience was enthusiastic and thanked the musicians with frenetic applause. The musical performance was not only a pleasure, but also enhanced the diversity of the program Jazz clubs Eschwege which organizes 10 to 12 concerts every year and presents a wide range of jazz styles.
A place for young people
What is particularly pleasing is the club's commitment, which enables young people under the age of 18 to take part free of charge. The music is well received not only by experienced jazz connoisseurs, but also by the younger generation.
But it's not just Knoll and his quartet that are an integral part of the jazz scene in Hesse. The Eschwege Jazz Club always gives well-known musicians such as Joe Pentzlin and Gregor Kilian a stage. Pentzlin, a renowned jazz and boogie pianist, has made a name for himself in Germany. His playing is influenced by the New Orleans tradition and he is successful not only as a solo pianist, but also as an accompanist to well-known instrumentalists.
Gregor Kilian, pianist for the Hamburg band “Hot Reeds and Rhythm”, also brings experience and style to the jazz club. His musical roots lie in swing and boogie woogie, and he is known for his contributions to various jazz formations. This diversity enriches the program and strengthens the local culture.
So if you're looking for top-notch jazz, it's worth a visit Eschwege Jazz Club anyway. Not only is music celebrated here, but the community of jazz lovers is also promoted.
