Eschwege celebrates Old Town Festival: live music and traditions on June 27th!

There's a festive feeling in Eschwege again this year! On Friday, June 27, 2025, the old town invites you to the popular St. John's Festival. There is great anticipation as there are numerous attractions waiting for visitors. As the city prepares for the celebrations, many locals and former residents look back on the colorful traditions that have been cultivated in Wergenstadt for years.

The festival looks back on a long history and is a real highlight in the region. This year, Eschweg's city center will once again be festively illuminated, while regional bands will provide the musical accompaniment. The band Tape Runner gets the crowd shaking with their rocking versions of 1980s classics like Michael Jackson and AC/DC. Another musical highlight is the adult education center's serenade concert, which is conducted by Sören Gehrke.

Musical diversity everywhere

The old town will be transformed into a colorful mix of music. Whether in Stad or Forstgasse, where the band Smash presents their diverse references, or at Hospitalplatz, where student bands and The Psycho Juniors create a great atmosphere - there is something for every taste here. The comeback of the Reifen Herren is particularly celebrated together with the party band Red – pure nostalgia!

  • Stad: Tape Runner spielt 1980er-Klassiker
  • Volkshochschule: Serenadenkonzert „Eine kleine Nachtmusik“
  • Schulberg: Acoustication und Grambusch treten auf
  • Marktplatz: Hits der 1980er und 1990er mit Red
  • Marktstraße: Blues von Bluesspender

In order to meet the security requirements for major events, the city of Eschwege has developed a comprehensive security concept in collaboration with the state police. This provides for a complete closure of the city center from Friday at 3 p.m. Visitors are invited to arrive without a car if possible and to use the parking facilities outside the old town. The city wants to increase both traffic flow and safety during the festival.

Modern security concept for carefree celebrations

An innovative security measure will be implemented this year: the fire brigade and police will use drones to monitor the flow of visitors. According to those responsible, this is a crucial step to guarantee a safe festival. The temporary bridge over the Werra will also be built so that emergency services have quick access to all areas. This coordinated concept is particularly important as there have been repeated security gaps at similar events in the past. Professional security management therefore becomes an absolute necessity in order to avoid security-related incidents, as emphasized on BPS Protect.

The city of Eschwege is holding the St. John's Festival in its usual form, despite some challenges that may have caused other municipalities to cancel their festivals. With this in mind, the city of Eschwege would like to thank the residents, visitors and emergency services for their understanding and commitment. If you enjoy the festival, you should pay attention to safety - and then nothing will stand in the way of a carefree celebration under the linden tree!

For anyone who would like to get in the mood for the festival, it is worth taking a look at the complete process and further information about the security concept, which can be found on the city's homepage: City of Eschwege. For more details on event highlights, just watch HNA.
