MT Melsungen: Season preparation begins! Where are the new arrivals?
The MT Melsungen is in the starting blocks for the new handball season. On August 29, 2025, the team will play its first home game against the Rhein-Neckar Löwen and thus take on the challenges of the Bundesliga. That reports HNA.
The Melsunger preparations begin today, July 18th. The first step takes place with the team eating together before the medical tests and performance diagnostics take place on Monday, July 21st. The players received individual training plans in the weeks before so that they could start the training phase optimally prepared. NH24 reports that the first test match will take place on July 27th against the second team in the Melsung city sports hall.
The first steps into the season
Coach Roberto Garcia Parrondo has to quickly integrate the new players into his strategy. With a total of six new additions, including two Hungarian national goalkeepers, it will be an exciting challenge for the team. It is particularly worth mentioning that Dimitri Ignatow and Ian Barrufet played consistently last season and played in all 56 competitive games. Ignatow is optimistic about the preparation and getting to know his new colleagues.
The first three league games in the Bundesliga have already been scheduled: MT Melsungen will travel to VfL Gummersbach on September 4th, before ThSV Eisenach is on the schedule a week later. The long-distance duels against prominent opponents such as THW Kiel, which will take place in their hall on October 25th, are also already casting their shadows.
Personnel challenges
Unfortunately, the team is also struggling with some departures and injuries. Ivan Martinovic and Mikael Appelgren have left the club, as has Elvar Örn Jonsson, who now plays for SC Magdeburg. To make matters worse, top performers Nebojsa Simic and Aaron Mensing will be out for several months, which will place additional demands on the team.
There is also good news for fans: the club's homepage has been updated and individual tickets for the first five home games are available from July 28th, with some games having a top opponent surcharge. The group phase of the European League will also be drawn on October 15th, where MT Melsungen is seeded. The end of the season also seems set, with a final game against TSV Hannover-Burgdorf on June 7, 2026.
MT Melsungen is optimistic about the coming months. When the ball rolls again on August 29th, players, coaches and fans will be looking forward to the new challenges together. An exciting year is ahead!
