Matthias Poppitz will be the new district fire chief in the Schwalm-Eder district!
In the fire brigade landscape of the Schwalm-Eder district, there is news that provide a breath of fresh air. On June 27, 2025, District Administrator Winfried Becker Matthias Poppitz appointed the new district fire chief. The 40-year-old Homberger not only has a lot of experience, but also a great passion for the fire brigade, which he has brought with him since childhood. His career began in the youth fire brigade, where he took his first step at the time of only 10, followed by active membership in the Homberg volunteer fire brigade (EFZE) from the age of 17. Poppitz works as a military leader of the core city fire brigade and is now taking care of the supervision of the Homberg areas (EFZE) and Knüllwald as district fire chief.
The appointment is very welcomed by District Administrator Becker and district fire inspector Tanja Dittmar. Both are looking forward to the future cooperation and the personnel reinforcement that the fire protection supervisory service in the region urgently needs. Poppitz itself has also emerged as a youth fire brigade in the fire brigade and also brings experience as an instructor in the field of respiratory protection, where he looks after the respiratory protection training in Schwalmstadt-Ziegenhain, among other things. This not only creates a solid basis for the measures in fire protection, but also for the training of young firefighters.
together strong in training
Another important aspect of fire work in the Schwalm-Eder district is the cooperation between the three fire brigade associations for the training of new trupführer. A course currently runs in Borken, where 28 firefighters from all circular parts are trained under realistic conditions. The fire station in Borken offers excellent opportunities, supported by the neighboring building yard with space for various training stations. The training program was revised, taking into account the experience and provides that the prospective squad leaders have to be trained on a total of three weekends, provided you have successfully completed a basic fire brigade training.
The basic training, which consists of the basic course and an intensive troops part 2 training, is the prerequisite for the further courses. During their two -year apprenticeship, the firefighters have the opportunity to complete additional courses such as radio or respiratory protection wearer. These further training measures are not only crucial for personal development, but also for the long-term security and efficiency of the entire fire brigade in the Schwalm-Eder district.
Thanks to the synergies and the new training strategy, not only the fire brigade itself is strengthened in the region, but a valuable network is also created that can increase the safety of all citizens. So it becomes clear that the fire brigade in the Schwalm-Eder district is in good hands, and with Matthias Poppitz and the active cooperation of the associations you can look at a successful future.
For further information on fire brigade training, the fire brigade association can be accessed, where the details on the training are provided.
For current developments and news from the region, it remains exciting how the projects will develop under the new management. Stay on it!
