Heart of Hofgeismar expired - what kind of church?

Over half a year ago, at the tower of the old town church in Hofgeismar, illuminated hearts shone and attracted the eyes of many passers -by. These artistic symbols were not only an eye -catcher, but also part of a fundraising campaign for the urgently needed renovation of the historical church. Now the hearts that promoted the "In the Heart of Hofgeismar" campaign have been dismantled again due to security concerns during thunderstorms. Steffi Melzer from the church council expressed that it is unclear whether the hearts are attached again, but new ideas are already being planned.

The response to this creative action was different: while some citizens were skeptical, most reactions have taken a positive turn. Interestingly, there was not only enthusiasm, but also a number of donations, including in the form of postcards and letters. The goal of the action to draw the attention of the community to the renovation needs of the old town church has been achieved in any case. So far, 23,000 euros have been collected from the campaign, whereby the final goal is 100,000 euros.

church in the heart of the community

The old town church is not only an architectural landmark, but also a central component of spiritual life in Hofgeismar. It is one of the oldest buildings in the city and plays a crucial role for the local community. The entire area of Protestant parishes has been united under one roof since 1962. These include the city church community Hofgeismar and the parishes of Gesundbrunnen, Carlsdorf, Kelze and Schöneberg. Since then, this general association has been working on personnel, finance and buildings to master the challenges of time and to actively live faith. The association is particularly committed as part of the "Fair Community" initiative, which aims at fairness and sustainability in everyday church life. This includes the use of fair trade products and regional foods.

The old town itself is not only a place of faith, but also a place of gathering. It is particularly important to get such monuments for future generations. The support of organizations such as the Kiba Foundation is therefore essential. This has been committed to preserving churches in Germany for almost 30 years and offers parishes the opportunity to make funding applications for renovation projects.

funding and future

The Kiba Foundation already awarded 92 funding commitments for churches in need of renovation in 2024 with a total funding of almost 1.3 million euros. A positive sign for all communities that work on the preservation of their churches. The uncomplicated online application makes it easier for parishes to access these means. In this way, photos and documents can be uploaded to support funding applications.

it remains to be hoped that the dismantling of the hearts in Hofgeismar does not mean the end of the creative ideas for donation acquisition. The old town church, with its central square in the community, deserves to remain in the heart of the citizens in the future and continue their unique history.
