Calden remains uncertain in the nature park: the future of the daycare center!
In the Calden municipal council, the future of the daycare center and the possible accession to the Habichtwald Nature Park was spoken this week. An application from the CDU parliamentary group to withdraw the application for admission was discussed, whereby the funds should instead be used to reintroduce the daycare. CDU parliamentary group leader Peter Pavel emphasized how important the daycare bus is for the residents, especially since parents from Fürstenwald and honest long distances to the daycare center in Meimbressen have to cover. The Kitabus is considered less emission and fulfills an important social function. Pavel described the nature park accession as senseless, since in his view he does not bring any significant tourist advantages.
The SPD, led by parliamentary group leader Jens Dieter Horn, disagreed. Horn argued that accession to the nature park would offer valuable advantages for both the attractiveness of Calden and for local companies. He also criticized the CDU for the fact that it only considered one aspect of the topic. He emphasizes that a withdrawal of the application would come to a very bad time and added the support of the FWG. The result of the vote fell with 6 votes in favor, 9 no votes and 7 abstentions against the application.
nature park membership from 2026
The decision to become a member of the Habichtwald Nature Park from January 1, 2026 was made in the same session, and with a positive majority of 15 votes for accession. The application for membership came from the SPD parliamentary group. The reasons for this step include tourist support, the support of local businesses and the opportunity to network with other communities. In this way, synergies can be used and joint events can be developed.
Membership is also intended to help intensify the commitment to nature conservation and sustainable tourism and to facilitate access to booking platforms for overnight accommodation. The overall picture shows a focused development of the community, which not only relies on public relations, but also on the creation of motorhome parking spaces and the promotion of bicycle traffic, a step to professionalize its offers.
Kitabus remains in conversation
The situation remains exciting in terms of daycare. Mayor Maik Mackewitz announced another trial operation by the end of the year. This is to be supported by the NVV line 133, with a daycare employee supervising the children. Legal questions about compliance with the support key are currently being clarified by an inquiry to the responsible ministry.
This shows that large steps are taken in Calden both in the area of mobility and in tourist development. It remains to be seen how future development in connection with the Kitabus and Nature Park membership.
