Early warning system for wild animals: Animal protection campaign in Bad Homburg Successful!
In the early morning hours of last Saturday, an exciting animal protection campaign around the Platzenberg took place in Bad Homburg. Together with the Association of Tierschutzengel Rheinmain e. V. and farmer Stefan Wagner was pursued an important goal: to protect wild animals from injuries or even death through agricultural mowing. This action impressively shows how nature conservation and agriculture can be combined.
The area was systematically searched with a drone with thermal imaging camera. In this way, the volunteers of the association were also able to combine endangered areas, especially among shrubs and trees, where the wild animals often hide. Ranger Boris Heinrich emphasized that such operations are not only morally important, but also required by law, to save young wild animals, such as the fawns.
successful animal rescue
During the measures, a rotting wild boar as well as a hedgehog and two fawns could be discovered, which could be brought to safety in good time. This is particularly important, since young animals often remain motionless on the floor in the event of danger and can be easily overlooked. Farmer Stefan Wagner had planned the Mahd very carefully and worked closely with the search team, which made the success of this campaign possible. "This collaboration is a great example of how we can have an eye on animal welfare together," said Wagner.
The use of drones with thermal imaging technology is not only innovative, but also part of a wider trend. From November 20, farmers and forester in Hesse are allowed to use drones with thermal imaging cameras to protect wild animals from mowing machines. Wochenblatt-News reports that the minimum distance for residential and commercial areas drops from 150, which is significantly easier.
drone updates & perspectives
The regulations on the use of drones were re -adapted by the Federal Ministry of Digital to support agriculture and animal welfare. Drrohnen.de emphasizes that the new regulations already apply until November 2024. During this time, over 90 percent of the previously restricted areas can be used for drone use, which is a considerable relief. The protection of young wild animals such as fawns becomes even more effective because the drones help farmers to track them down in good time.
for the Association of Tierschutzengel Rheinmain e. V. such missions are a matter close to the heart, and they are always looking for certified drone pilots. Interested parties can contact the association directly: kontakt@tierschutzengel-rheinmain.de. And so it shows once again how valuable a good network in animal welfare can be.
