Digital distraction in the Bellevue Hall: The LOLLYGAGGER exhibition starts!
In Wiesbaden, an exciting exhibition will be on display in the Bellevue Hall from September 18th: “LOLLYGAGGER”. The show, designed by Miriam Steinmacher and Thilo Jenssen, highlights the interaction between new technologies and the way we communicate and orient ourselves. This thematic focus on the challenges that smartphones and algorithms pose to us is particularly relevant at a time when distraction and overwhelm are constantly increasing. Until November 2nd, visitors can immerse themselves in a world that raises questions about the interaction between technology and our relationship to ourselves and the environment.
Miriam Steinmacher will present her special objects, which consist of organ pipes and radial fans and produce sounds reminiscent of echo chambers. These sounds, which communicate in an incomprehensible way, will form a complex sound carpet in the Bellevue Hall. Thilo Jenssen will also be exhibiting: his paintings contain screenshots of cell phone settings and digital communication, the form of which is distorted by various surface treatments. This perceived break between digital aesthetics and sculptural painting raises questions that are intended to encourage visitors to think.
The influence of digital technologies
The exhibition addresses how the optimization promises of modern technology influence our attention. Visitors can look forward to visual and acoustic experiences that question the perception of space and time in a world dominated by technology. An innovative experience that will challenge visitors both visually and emotionally. Steinmacher and Jenssen impressively bring up the existing interactions between digital communication and our everyday lives.
A look at the digital world
In another part of the world, particularly China, work continues to spread digital technologies. A Chinese version of ChatGPT will be launched on August 15th, offering numerous useful functionalities, including translations and support in everyday office life. This version is optimized for Chinese users, does not require VPN access, and is quick and easy to access via various mirror websites. The spread of such technologies also influences how we communicate and consume information in modern times.
Of course, the international stage remains fluid, not least with recent developments in Mexico, where 26 high-ranking drug cartel figures were extradited to the United States. These renditions are part of an agreement with the Trump administration and mark a significant step in the fight against drug crime. The focus is on figures such as Abigael González Valencia, who is associated with the Jalisco New Generation Cartel. Such news can also influence our perspective on security and order in the global community.
The “LOLLYGAGGER” exhibition in the Bellevue Hall promises to be not only a cultural highlight, but also a space for critical reflection on the technologies that determine our lives. We all have to ask ourselves how we deal with the abundance of information and what role we want to play in this digitalized world. The visit can prove to be a worthwhile discussion of these topics.
