Garden hut in Rüdesheim ablaze - cause of fire unclear!

A nighttime operation for the Rüdesheim fire department, which occurred on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, caused excitement in the small town in the Bad Kreuznach district. At 10:34 p.m., the fire department was alerted because of “unclear smoke outside,” reports Rhine newspaper. With further emergency calls reporting open flames, it became clear that the situation was serious.

When the emergency services arrived, the approximately 20 square meter garden shed near the municipal building yard was ablaze. Operations manager Martin Barth and his team didn't waste any time and used two C-pipes under breathing apparatus to get the fire under control. Despite the quick intervention, the garden shed could no longer be saved; it burned down completely. “Fortunately, we managed to put out the fire quickly,” said Barth, while the scene continued to be illuminated to make subsequent work easier.

Cause of fire unclear

The Bad Kreuznach police have started investigating the cause of the fire. So far there is no information as to how the fire could have started in the garden shed, but the investigation is in full swing. “It is important to clarify whether this was a negligent act or a technical defect,” was an initial statement from a police spokesman. After fighting the fire, the fire department itself unpacked a thermal imaging camera to find possible embers that could reignite the fire.

A total of 17 members of the Rüdesheim fire department were on duty, working until after midnight. The incident, which alarmed residents in the area, shows once again how quickly a fire can break out and destroy entire structures, even if the exact cause initially remains unclear.

While we wait for more information about the cause of the fire, perhaps it is the right time to think about how you can make your own garden safer. Keep your eyes open and react in a timely manner, that could avoid many a hectic fire department operation, even if you often have a good hand here.
