Middle Rhine-Studen mix: Greening initiative inspires communities!

Boppard, Deutschland - A fresh wind blows through the upper Middle Rhine Valley-the Buga29 brings new accents to the region with the greenery initiative "Mittelrhein-Studenmix". On the occasion of the opening event in Boppard, 40 representatives from 25 municipalities came together to exchange ideas about this promising project. Helmut Zindorf, the first deputy of Boppard, warmly welcomed the participants and already presented the positive effects in Koblenz, which this initiative brings. All interested parties are invited to register for plant deliveries by August 4, 2025. The first delivery is planned for April 2026.

What is behind the Middle Rhine-Studen mix? The project, which puts the local flora into the spotlight, focuses on the development of a mixture of planting from domestic perennials. The selected plants are not only easy to care for, but also resistant to dryness. This is particularly important in view of the noticeable effects of climate change, such as drought and heavy rain. The project helps to better adapt the region to these changes, which should also promote biodiversity. A green concept for municipalities and private gardens

One of the central questions remains what this plant mixture looks like in practice. Local plants such as sage and yarrow will be part of the perennial mix, which was specially developed for sunny and dry locations. Cooperation with cities and municipalities is an important part of the project. In addition to the possibility of planting public and private green areas, a care plan for the municipalities is also considered. There is also a raffle for a plant package that arouses great anticipation.

The Buga29, which will take place along the 67-kilometer UNESCO World Heritage Upper Mittelrheintal in the future, has the task of not only beautifying the region, but also serving as a model for dealing with climate impacts. The "Middle Rhine-Studen mix" should therefore not only exist on paper, but also act in reality. The goal is to set a clear accent on regional biodiversity and at the same time reduce the maintenance effort for the municipalities. Klima-Werk points out that ...

The big whole - adaptation strategies to climate change

In the context of climate change, the challenges are complex. Dür Repferitions, heavy rain and other drastic weather conditions provide great questions for both humans and nature. It is clear: there is a need for action. The vision of blue and green sponge cities is increasingly being discussed. These concepts aim to effectively use rainwater, store it and release them in the groundwater. At the same time, a network of climate workers is created to develop solutions together and actively promote climate protection.
