Yellow cards for speeders: Students check drivers in Michelstadt!

Today, November 1st, 2025, things got really busy in tranquil Michelstadt: The police and committed students from the local high school launched a special road safety campaign under the motto “Blitz for Kids”. Speed measurements were carried out on Erbacher Strasse between 9:30 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. to make drivers aware of the dangers near schools.

During this operation, a police officer and two employees of the Michelstadt city police were on site to check the speed of the vehicles driving past together with the children. A real learning success for the students, who not only observed the traffic, but also actively intervened in the safety of their classmates.

Results that make you sit up and take notice

The results speak volumes: 22 road users exceeded the maximum permitted speed of 30 km/h. They were given a yellow card by the students, a sign that they were not only speeding but also careless. What particularly stands out, however, is the top speed of 45 km/h that one driver achieved. On the other hand, it was positive that 17 other drivers received a green card because they adhered to the speed limit in an exemplary manner and thus set a good example for other road users.

The campaign aims to not only identify speeders, but also to raise awareness of road safety. Studies show that unsafe situations often arise in front of schools, which can be dangerous, especially for children. In this sense, such offensive measures are very useful to promote consideration in road traffic.

A nationwide commitment

The “Blitz for Kids” road safety campaign is not an isolated case. The project has also been carried out in several schools in other federal states, especially in Saxony, since March 31, 2025. The concept is the same: Students work hand in hand with the police to conduct speed checks and politely but firmly point out drivers about their driving behavior. As part of this initiative, it is also ensured that the speed measuring devices used are tested and calibrated annually by expert calibration authorities. This ensures that the measured speed corresponds to the actual values, which is essential for the legal durability of such measurements.

One goal that this campaign pursues is to sustainably reduce the risk of accidents, especially for children - a concern that affects us all. We from the Worms newspaper hope that such actions will be carried out regularly in the future to raise awareness among drivers and increase road safety. Ultimately, all of these small contributions are a step in the right direction towards a safer school environment.
