In Mörfelden, the Dalles Café has been surprisingly closed since the beginning of December 2025. The tenant gave up significantly earlier than expected, which shocked some regulars. mayor Karsten Groß However, he is optimistic that a new café will soon be able to open in the same location.
The city administration is already active and is looking for a new tenant for the municipal building. “We have several interested parties who could have a good knack for revitalizing the now popular location,” explains Groß. The magistrate plans to decide on the new lease agreement in mid-December.
The café and the new future
The hope remains that the café will reopen quickly in spring 2026. However, it is unclear whether extensive renovation work is necessary, as a planning application could delay the process. The city had originally expected that the café operations would continue until the turn of the year, but now the situation is completely different.
Karsten Groß, who has been Mörfelden-Walldorf's first city councilor since August 1, 2021 and recently won the mayoral runoff election with 52.47% over incumbent Thomas Winkler (Greens), is deeply rooted in his community. Born in Frankfurt am Main and raised in Mörfelden-Walldorf, he has made a name for himself in politics and the field of communications. From 1993 to 2021 he was a city councilor, and from 2001 to 2021 he held significant responsibility as parliamentary group leader of the CDU.
Groß lives in the city with his wife Parissa Abdi and their adult son and is actively pursuing plans to strengthen the local gastronomy. “A new café would not only bring a breath of fresh air, but also strengthen the community,” he sees the closure not only as a loss, but as an opportunity for new beginnings.
The developments surrounding the Dalles Café show that there is still a lot of potential in Mörfelden. And who knows, maybe we'll soon be sitting with a cup of coffee in a new, inviting café that continues the tradition of the location.
