Anyone who wants to cycle or walk between Lorsch and Heppenheim in the coming months will have to be prepared for diversions. From October 6, 2025, the southern cycle path connection will be completely closed. This reports Rhein Main Verlag. The closure affects all road users, including pedestrians and cyclists.

The reason for the interruption is the renovation of the bridge over the Alte Weschnitz in the new Bruch, which is expected to take around three months. Signs will be placed at entrances to inform residents and commuters of necessary diversions. Parallel to the bridge renovation, the MIDAL gas pipeline in the area will also be replaced, a project that will take around six weeks and therefore overlaps with the bridge renovation.

Renovation work and traffic control

Before the bridge renovation officially starts, materials for the construction work will be delivered. During this time, cyclists and pedestrians are encouraged to use alternative routes between Lorsch and Heppenheim. The construction access for the gas pipeline is set up via the L3398.
