District road 63: million investment for safety and comfort!

Good news for all road users in the region: The renovation of district road 63 between Antrifttal-Bernsburg and the junction to Arnshain has been successfully completed. The official opening to traffic took place on Friday, November 1, 2025, which was attended by representatives of the Vogelsberg district and Marius Schäfer, head of the construction department at Hessen Mobil. “The newly renovated section is ideally prepared for the challenges of future traffic loads,” said Schäfer, pleased about the result of the work that had been carried out since mid-August, as reported Upper Hesse Live.

At a groundbreaking ceremony that took place on August 22, 2025, First District Councilor Patrick Krug also emphasized the need for such investments. “The renovation is not only progress, but also part of a larger plan,” he noted. These include projects such as the through town in Hopfmannsfeld and the K 66 near Fischbach. Investments of around nine million euros are planned for the renewal of the road network in the Vogelsberg district over the next five years.

Background and challenges of the renovation

The renovation of K 63 was overdue. Frost damage and numerous potholes had significantly affected the road condition. The Giessener Allgemeine reports that when the road was renewed, the asphalt layers were also replaced on a high level and the road edges were paved with grass pavers. The costs for the work amounted to a total of 750,000 euros, of which around 480,000 euros were funded by the state of Hesse.

Despite the positive results, there were some inconveniences for road users during the construction work. A full closure was unavoidable because the K 63 was not suitable for a partial closure. Diversions led from Bernsburg via the K 64 and L 3070 to Arnshain and Neustadt. “We would like to thank all road users for their understanding and patience during these necessary measures,” emphasized Krug.

Looking into the future

With the approval of the K 63, we can now turn our attention to the next steps in road construction. For 2026, consideration is also underway to increase funding for pavement renovations by 50 percent, which means a total of around 1.1 million euros for road maintenance. Mayor Dietmar Krist emphasized the importance of a well-developed infrastructure for the quality of life in Antrifttal.

Finally, it remains to be hoped that the measures taken by the Vogelsberg district will continue to bear fruit in the next few years👍 and that citizens can enjoy the advantages of a well-developed road infrastructure.
