Heat and thunderstorms: Hesse is preparing for violent storms!

The sky over Hesse is gathering and heralding a spectacular weather situation: Today, June 15, 2025, the German Weather Service (DWD) is warning of extreme weather phenomena that will spread across the region in the afternoon. While temperatures in Frankfurt reach up to 35 degrees Celsius, a thunderstorm front will appear later in the afternoon, which will abruptly end the summer heat. Already in the early evening hours, the thunderstorm situation will concentrate on the east of Hesse, as is the case Frankfurter Neue Presse reported.

The thunderstorm warnings particularly affect the districts of Fulda, Hersfeld-Rotenburg, the Schwalm-Eder district and the Vogelsberg district. These warnings are in effect until shortly before 11 p.m. Gusts of wind with speeds between 70 and 80 km/h are possible here. The forecasts indicate heavy rain, which can locally reach amounts of up to 25 liters per square meter. The warning of a storm that could bring heavy rain of up to 50 liters per square meter is less likely, but cannot be ruled out.

From heat to storms

Extreme caution is therefore advised, especially on the roads.
